We are a distributor with in-depth knowledge about our suppliers’ products, including application and cost-in-use benefits. On this basis, our well-trained technical sales teams are able to find creative solutions for the challenges of our customers, often inspired by useful cases from other application areas, global regions or life science markets.

Synergies between top brands

Advantageous ingredients from our principals can become even more interesting – when they are combined with one or more other ingredients. An example of this might be an innovative and cost-effective combination of ingredients for better taste, color, nutritional value and easier processing … We can develop solutions like this in our application laboratories, providing our customers with the formula and supplying all the single branded ingredients needed. On request, we can deliver those ingredients as a customer-specific blend. For our principals, these combined solutions can bring new opportunities with new customers or in new markets.

Where we are

Our global presence connects markets

We operate with local warehouses in every country, local sales staff, regional hubs, our application laboratories and customized formulation centers. We have the physical resources to successfully distribute the products of our suppliers and to meet the demands of our thousands of customers. Through our network, a supplier from one country can reach out to more than 60 countries – and our more than 15,000 customers have access to the portfolio of our principals at all their production sites.

Our founder, Herman Barentz had to hide to survive World War II. While he was in-hiding, he spent all of his time reading and studying. This formed his strong belief in the invincible power of knowledge.

When he started his own company in Amsterdam in 1953, knowledge became the fundament for growth and today it still is. That's why we are renowned for our technical and market expertise.

When he started his own company in Amsterdam in 1953, knowledge became the fundament for growth and today it still is. That's why we are renowned for our technical and market expertise. 

Entrepreneurship as driver

In 1953 Herman Barentz started his company with nothing more than an idea, as every entrepreneur: Roquette started to produce a new range of products and Herman Barentz saw a business opportunity. He convinced them he was the right person to represent the brand in the Netherlands. This turned out to be a huge success, and supplier after supplier joined. This entrepreneurial mentality is still one of the strongest drivers of Barentz' business.

 

Long-lasting partnerships

Every entrepreneur remembers the moment of the first deal. To make that deal, you have to make promises. To get a second deal, you have to keep your promises. For Herman Barentz, trust was key, because he knew this is the only way to build strong and lasting partnerships. This is still our attitude towards doing business today. Perhaps the best example we can give is that we are still cooperating with our very first partner. For almost 70 years.
